Shorts hashtags help connect creators with communities, share trending topics, and discover new content formats. They're essential for anyone creating short-form video content.
Instagram announced in December 2025 that posts and Reels can use up to 5 hashtags. Because product rollouts and public documentation can change, confirm the current in-app behaviour before publishing. Pick the 5 that describe the post most precisely.

Editor field note
YouTube Shorts work best when hashtags support the video's actual topic rather than replacing a useful title or description. A coding Short, recipe Short and travel Short need different labels. Keep the hashtag set modest and remember that YouTube's separate Tags field is different from hashtags. The video's title, thumbnail and description remain more important metadata for discovery.
Editorial guidance
YouTube Shorts hashtags should describe the short video’s subject or series rather than acting as a separate growth trick.
Use the video topic first, then the series or content type, and keep platform-specific hashtags secondary.
Editor’s note: For Shorts, the video itself is the subject. Use hashtags to label that subject, not to imply a guaranteed distribution advantage.

YouTube ignores all hashtags if a video has more than 60. Going over that causes all hashtags on the video to be ignored, so most creators use two or three.
