Holiday hashtags work best when they identify the celebration and the content inside it. Use this guide to move from a generic holiday label to a small set that describes the actual post.

Christmas and winter holidays

Use tags for the Christmas celebration, decor, food, family gathering or market shown. If the post is about a specific local event, add the location rather than a random global tag.

New Year

New Year posts often fall into countdowns, fireworks, parties, goals and family moments. Pick the group that matches the post and avoid carrying a previous year's number into a new season.

Family holidays

Mother's Day, Father's Day and similar celebrations are usually personal. A few tags for the occasion, gift, meal or family activity are enough; there is rarely a reason to paste a large block.

Costume and spring holidays

Halloween and Easter can be split by costumes, makeup, eggs, baking, decor, brunch or family activities. Use the specific subject so the hashtag set explains the image or video.

Make seasonal content specific

Holiday hashtags are most useful when they distinguish the exact season activity. A New Year countdown, Mother's Day gift guide, Halloween makeup tutorial and Thanksgiving recipe all need different supporting tags. Add country or city context when the event or tradition is local. Avoid year-specific tags on evergreen guides and avoid implying that one country’s holiday customs are universal. Seasonal relevance comes from the content itself, not from attaching as many holiday words as possible.
